Expat Money is the data controller responsible for your personal data collected through this website (expatmoney.nl). We are based in the Netherlands and subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What data we collect

We collect minimal data necessary to operate our service. We do not store any personal financial data, banking credentials, or sensitive financial information.

Analytics data

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. This includes anonymized data such as pages visited, time spent on site, device type, approximate geographic location, and referral source. IP addresses are anonymized before processing.

Email address

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address through Buttondown, our email service provider. You provide this voluntarily, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Quiz responses

When you use our product recommendation quiz, your responses are processed locally in your browser to generate personalized recommendations. We do not store your individual quiz answers on our servers.

Cookies

The main cookies we use are Google Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_*) which help us understand site usage patterns.

Data retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this policy:

--Analytics data -- retained for 14 months as per our Google Analytics configuration, then automatically deleted.
--Email addresses -- retained as long as you remain subscribed to our newsletter. Deleted within 30 days of unsubscribing.
--Quiz responses -- not retained. Processed in your browser only during your session.

Affiliate partners

When you click an affiliate link to a financial product, you leave our site and are subject to that provider's privacy policy. We do not share your personal data with affiliate partners. The affiliate tracking is handled through cookies set by the partner's website, not ours.

International data transfers

Some of our third-party service providers (such as Google) may process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or adequacy decisions by the European Commission.
